Cazenovia Recovery Systems and Finger Lakes Addictions Counseling and Referral Agency (FLACRA) in Clifton Springs recently received two awards for Cadence Square, a residence for Veterans that we co-developed on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Canandaigua, NY.

Cadence Square was created in 2013 for male and female military Veterans who are homeless or at risk for homelessness. There are 17 apartments for families. Eight supportive living units and eight community residence units accommodate an additional 26 individuals. The project drew federal historical rehabilitation tax credits and funds from New York State government sources, including the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. Our agency served as a development partner in the project while FLACRA is the sole operator and property manager of the facility. FLACRA, founded in 1973, is a substance use treatment provider with locations in Clifton Springs, Geneva, Newark, Penn Yan and Watkins Glen.

The Supportive Housing Network of New York recognized Cadence Square as its 2015 Residence of the Year for its development as a place offering quality, affordable housing and a continuum of care.

Meanwhile, The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation presented its 2015 Historic Preservation Award to Cadence Square for quality rehabilitation of Building 14 on the campus that preserves its historic heritage.

Sue Bissonette, our Executive Director, said, “This project stands in testament to the fact that the hopes of having a safe place to live can become reality for Veterans in need.”
