Step Toward Success

Step Toward Success features peer-supported apartments in Erie and Niagara Counties that are shared between two or three people in recovery. Select apartments are available for parents to admit with one child who is preschool age or younger. 

Step Toward Success has apartments available throughout Buffalo and its surrounding suburbs, Lockport, and Niagara Falls. The program is certified by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports as Reintegration (Scattered Site). It also receives oversight from the Erie County Department of Mental Health and the Niagara County Department of Mental Health.

This level is ideal for people with substance use disorders who have completed some treatment programs, but still need some support and structure. Wraparound services are available for residents including individual and group counseling, relapse prevention services, and case management.

Step Toward Success connects its residents to:

• Outpatient treatment
• Primary and specialty medical care
• Mental health services
• Education and vocational services

We recognize that everyone’s individual path to recovery is different. Our care reflects this as every resident chooses their own personal recovery goals and relevant recovery groups. Each person’s stay is unique and can vary significantly from a couple of weeks to a couple of months or more. It all depends on what each person needs.

Step Toward Success Apartment Features 

• Peer-connected two-or three-bedroom apartments in single or double homes with individual bedrooms for each resident
• All apartments are located within close access to transportation and community resources, such as shopping, schools, and hospitals
• Properties are often conveniently located close to the agency’s other programs

Admission Criteria

• Men or women 18 years of age or older
• In need of substance use services 
• Children must be preschool age or younger if admitting with a parent
